About Alight
From its very humble beginnings to its present day, our recall of many people's prayers, fellowship, commitment, precious memories both happy and sad begin. From the dream and the vision planted in the hearts of a few, God has truly honored throughout many decades.
The church commenced its ministry in Wairoa in 1974. That service has been held in a small hall at Somerville Street. And then later in the War Memorial Hall in Queen Street. It was Pastor Norm and Joyce King's vision to have a church that would seat 400 a place where the word of God could be heard, in order that people's lives might be changed, enriched and flourished throughout the power of God in their lives. In May 1981, the present property then known as the old Veterinary Clinic, was purchased and plans and specifications were drawn up for the proposed complex, with the project
being carried out in three stages over several years, utilizing pasture Norm's previous building expertise which was completed along with a small group of fellow believers committed to continued in the vision. As the church grew, the dream was realized through much prayer and hard work, sacrificial giving and many difficult times, though sheer determination thus, that God's purpose and promise were true, and he would honor the faith and those people who, who understood the vision, understood the great things required in great sacrifice and heart for those who were lost and who needed to experience God's love. During this time, Norman and Joyce's son Paul and Vanessa his wife moved into a leadership role and continued together with a wonderful group of people growing and learning along the way.
Over time the Wairoa or Christian Revival Crusade Church began Sunday school lessons and children's ministry work, which grew with junior and senior camps being held out at the developing church camp property Qodesh Beach Retreat. Youth Groups on Friday nights, clubs, ladies groups, craft groups, midweek study and home groups were all integral to the growth within the region with a local Christian bookstore to help resource the ministries set up in the main street. A outreach church in Gisborne have also been the times where faith has been planted where people's lives have been touched by God's word and love. Leadership within the church was developed and opportunities were encouraged for ministry to flourish.
A name change in the early 2000s to the Crusade Family Church Wairoa would enhance and reflect the heart for the people to find a place where God could identify them and join God's family.
Over the years the church community of Wairoa has enjoyed great spiritual friendships with each other, the local Ministers Fraternal representatives meet regularly to liaise and pray together for the united vision of the Wairoa community and its families. These leaders developed a loving respect for each other and the churches that they represented. Although each church was individual and its vision and activities we enjoyed many times of combined church fellowship, which built a strong respect understanding and appreciation in reaching people in our community.
As we look back at our journey so far, we give glory to God, as we have seen his blessing and supply since those inital steps taken way back into in the 70s. We feel extremely feel grateful to have shared this path with so many wonderful people, from all walks of life, with their own story of how God has touched them and enabled them to walk in his ways. It's our desire as we navigate forward that we stand on the shoulders of all those past members of this congregation that now our newly named ALIGHT CHURCH continues to grow building on the vision that has taken us thus far and will continue to be established for future generations.
All this, keeping our precious Savior JESUS at its center of everything we do, serving its community and being A LIGHT to the lost and hurting, a beacon for those who may have lost their way and for those who are looking to progress in the grace and knowledge of him, bringing hope and peace to people through knowing Jesus intimately and believing His Word and growing in it.
God's richest Blessings
